If you're considering a move into pharmaceutical sales, try one of these sources.
- Company websites: Many pharmaceutical companies allow you to apply for a pharma sales position on their websites. This usually isn't just a matter of emailing your resume – most have a screening process that requires you to pass a skills ranking test just to apply.
- Networking: Most pharmaceutical companies receive hundreds of applications per job. One way to stand out is to get a recommendation from an existing pharma sales rep. Assuming you don't already know someone in the industry, the best way to find a friendly rep is to ask your doctor or pharmacist. They'll usually have dozens of business cards from various reps and will be happy to pass a few on to you.
- Recruiters: Most recruiters specialize in matching jobs to candidates for a single industry. Find a pharmaceutical sales recruiter and establish a relationship. Often your recruiter will have contacts within various pharma companies and can get your resume directly in front of a hiring manager. From there, of course, it's up to you.
- Job Fairs: Many pharmaceutical companies regularly hold job fairs to collect applications. Since they'll probably get hundreds or even thousands of resumes at each event, you'd better have an outstanding resume if you want to pursue this course.
