Testimonials can be a powerful tool for convincing prospects that you can provide what you promise. It's best to have several testimonials on hand, which can be more persuasive and increase the chances of relating to prospects with similar needs.

You can collect testimonials from customers with the assistance of the following sample letters. In your letter, request that customers provide a written or recorded testimonial of your product or service and how it's helped them. The testimonials can then be posted on your website.

Template for a Generic Testimonial Request Letter—Text Version

Dear (Name),

When someone takes the time to recount a positive experience, it speaks volumes. And so I would like to request a small favor–a testimonial that will give others a sense of the experience and service I offer.

Whether it’s a recommendation for a restaurant, a vacation spot, or a doctor, I have always felt that the testimonial is a powerful indicator of excellence. I strive to provide such excellence with each and every transaction, and I sincerely hope that describes your experience with me.

This testimonial can be as short or as long as you like. It is valuable to my future business and, just as importantly, allows me to continuously improve the level of service I provide. Feel free to either email me or call my cell phone. Alternatively, you can use the enclosed self-addressed, stamped envelope enclosed to share your thoughts on your experience with my company.

I sincerely appreciate your help and look forward to serving you and meeting your needs for years to come.

Warmest regards,

I would greatly appreciate it if, in your own words, you could say something to the effect, "I've received stellar service from ABC Company over the years. Everyone I've worked with at ABC Company has always provided service on time, on budget, and above expectations. They are an integral part of our team and work with us to overcome challenges whatever they may be. I can't recommend them enough."

Thinking Outside of the Box

Customer testimonials can also be useful for obtaining persuasive quotes that can be posted on your website, perhaps placed near the products or services discussed or on an online bulletin board. Think about using customer testimonial information in convincing ways to demonstrate the value of your products and services and how they've benefited others.
